YOUNG SPARKS
Blacksmithing is a dynamic heritage craft that teaches a wide range of skills, blending practical techniques with materials, maths, history, science, magic and more.
We are proud to offer the Young Sparks sessions and have specialist insurance that covers us to work with ages 11+. In an era of advanced technology, we provide an alternative, red hot, hands on practical experience to young people.
In this course, both the young sparks and there guardians will learn the fundamental basics of blacksmithing in a supportive and engaging environment. We will begin with a quick hands-on exercise designed to introduce the key techniques, interesting facts and the history of hot forging.
Once everyone is properly warmed up, we will move on to the main project, carefully chosen to match each person’s individual skill level and ability.
Guardians are only expected to supervise and wont have their own project to complete. They can give practical assistance at the anvil and provide any type of support necessary to their young person.

The session lasts 3 hours with breaks to suit individual needs. There is no rush and you can keep all your work and learn how to finish and care for your projects. Classes are small, with up to three young people and three guardians per session or can be booked privately. This is a practical experience, so be prepared to get your hands dirty. However there is nothing to worry about and an expert blacksmith will be there to guide you every step of the way.
